Fishing Update! |
June 30, 2009 UPDATE
The Blue Marlin
fishing in Kona continues to be red hot.
Yesterday, June 29, we missed one Blue Marlin but landed
two Wahoo...one a whopping 52 lb, our biggest of the
year. Also this week, Richard McBride from Escondido, California (a previous client) had his best day
ever fishing. About 10 am, the long corner lure
went off, the fish leaped 10 feet in the air......but
the fish threw the hook after about 10 seconds.
However, this was an determined fish and it immediately
moved over to the short rigger lure and line started
screaming off the reel. Richard jumped in the
chair and brought this nice 300 lb. Blue to the boat in
about 30 minutes. About two hours later, a 200 lb.
Blue Marlin struck the stinger lure and Richard brought
this fish to the boat in about 20 minutes. Both fish
were released to fight another day! A beautiful
calm day and Kona fishing at it's best!
The day before, Charlie Beriault from Colorado, had a great day
tagging a 275 lb. Blue Marlin. And the day before
that,
we had a group from Mechanicsville, Virgina.
Brandon Mason and his wife, Jenna both caught 40 lb
Wahoo. However the big catch was Chase Norman who
spent an hour in the fighting chair before we tagged and
released an huge 500 lb Blue Marlin. His friend,
Dillon Cole also got in on the action as a 400 lb. Blue
Marlin crashed the short rigger about an hour later.
Dillon did a nice job...but after 30 minutes the fish
came off as we were trying to release it. Great
day for everyone! Earlier this month,
Andrew and Sarah Kocisky (along with their friends Nick,
Megan, Nick and Kyla) chartered HighNoon and
wanted a Blue Marlin. This fun group are from
Phoenix, Arizona and this was their first experience at
Kona big game fishing, After giving Andrew instructions
on how to fight a big fish, Andrew never made it out of
the fighting chair. A huge striped Marlin attacked
the stinger lure before Andrew could even get out of the
chair and started screaming out line. After a 30
minute fight, we were surprised to see a huge striped
Marlin. It weighed in
at 117 lbs...which made it the largest striped Marlin of
the year in Kona.
The Kona
fishing this entire summer has been excellent for
Blue Marlin....the best in years! The Wahoo have showed up in good numbers and are providing some
good early morning
action on the rocky points near shore. Spearfish
are also hitting in good numbers along with the marlin. The water temps have warmed
up 3 degrees just this past few days to 82 degrees and the Kona
fishing has improved with the advent of the warmer
waters.....and the fishing should just get better with
the advent of summer.
Kona Hawaii fishing charters during the summer usually begins
with a quick troll by the rocky point in front of the
harbor for Wahoo. We can then switch over for Blue
Marlin and other big game fish as we head to one of the
FAD bouys or ledges for some skipjack and small
yellowfin tuna. We then bridle these up as
live bait for Blue Marlin, Ahi and Mahi Mahi. The Wahoo fishing should continue to be very good
through July. If we do land one of these great
eating fish, I am happy to filet it up for you following
the charter. On more than a few occasions lately
we have stopped off at Captain Cooks monument while our
anglers took a short break and snorkeled in the crystal
clear waters of the best snorkeling in Hawaii.
Note:
The
February 2009 issue of Marlin Magazine features HighNoon
and Captain Dee Bradford in it's main article
regarding how lure fishing compares to live bait fishing
in Kona Hawaii fishing. It gives 10 reasons why lures
are better than live bait....and 8 reasons why they are
NOT!

Deep Sea Fishing Charters

Best rates in
Kona Hawaii for a quality boat! Our flybridge is
shaded, cool and comfortable - a great place to relax
and wait for that next strike.
HighNoon
is a beautiful Blackfin Sportfisher, one of the
world's finest sport fishing boats and perfect for Kona
Hawaii fishing. There are many excellent Kona sport fishing
charter boats and Hawaii fishing guides.
Why choose HighNoon as your Kona charter boat?
First, I am one
of the few owner/operators in the Kona Hawaii fishing
fleet. Since I own my own boat, I am able to
tailor each fishing trip for each angler. I also enjoy
talking with each angler and then customizing a fishing
trip just for them. While many of my clients want to
fish for Blue Marlin, others enjoy light tackle fishing
for Wahoo and Mahi Mahi. Many clients are valued repeat
customers.
I
also do things a bit differently than most Kona deep
sea fishing charters. Most Kona fishing charters book
either through charter fishing boat services or hotel
activity desks. These vacation services take a large
commission for their services. I only book direct with
the customer either through personal references or through
the Internet. This allows me to keep my rates low to
you since I do not pay for referral commissions.
HighNoon
is one of Kona busiest sport fishing boats. It is
a 32 foot Blackfin with air conditioned cabin, twin
turbo diesels, a large comfortable and shaded flybridge
and a spacious fighting deck. And yet a full day exclusive
Kona Sport fishing charter on HighNoon is only $695. I
also have a great 3/4 day charter rate of $560. And the
half day rate is $385 which is a very viable option
since there is no run to the fishing grounds in Kona.
From the time we leave the harbor, we are big game
fishing in about 5 minutes. Fishing Kona Hawaii is one
of the few places in the world that a half day charter
gives you a real shot at a giant Blue Marlin or Ahi.
Kona
Marlin fishing is not just for the experienced angler.
Many of my clients have never been big game fishing
before and have caught Marlin, tuna and other big game
fish. I enjoy showing first time anglers how to catch
giant Marlin and other Billfish. Plus, because of the
calm waters and magnificent scenery including the dolphins
and whales, the Kona marlin fishing experience can be
enjoyed by everyone.
Kona
deep sea fishing is spectacular. The ultimate big game fish,
the Pacific Blue Marlin are found in the waters off
Kona Hawaii all year around. Also, striped Marlin, Black Marlin,
Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo and Spearfish are also here much
of the year. Mahi Mahi and the smaller tuna are among
the other big game fish found in the waters off Kona.
A Kona sport fishing charter offers a wide variety of fishing
choices for both the experienced as well as the novice
angler.
Kona Fishing Charters have something to offer anglers
all year around. Our Kona Marlin fishing is world famous
and most of the world record Blue Marlin have been caught
off the Kona Coast of Hawaii. Kona deep sea fishing is
a year around sport. Our summer Kona fishing
charters target Blue Marlin, Ahi and Wahoo.
During the winter, we have Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi,
Spearfish and striped marlin. While Kona marlin fishing, we run a variety
of big game lures for all types of big game fish. You
never know if that next strike is going to be a 30lb
Wahoo or a 500 lb Pacific Blue Marlin!
