Justin and Jacyln Gravis from Columbia, South Carolina and their friend from Las Vegas, Monty Meadows had an awesome fishing experience in Kona, Hawaii. As they were staying in condos, they wanted something good to eat and got their wish about 3 minutes into their charter as a double strike of Wahoo hit at about 5:35 am. Justin jumped into the fighting chair and brought this nice 30 lb Wahoo into the boat and into the cooler in about 5 minutes.
Here is an awesome video of the Blue Marlin.
OK, now with a nice eating fish on board, we decided to try for something bigger. We put our bigger lure spread out and about 30 minutes later (about 6:15 am) the long corner lure went screaming off. “Marlin! Marlin! ” I yelled and pointed. This time, Monty jumped into the fighting chair. A 500 lb package of Blue fury exploded out of the water. It took out about 300 yards before doubling back, greyhounding right at the boat. I pushed the throttles full speed ahead to stay in front of this huge fish. We finally got ahead of this fish and got her under control. Monty spent the next 30 minutes fighting it to the back of the boat. Here is Monty fighting the fish and the release photos. About 550 lbs of Blue Marlin released to fight another day.
All this before 7 am…..what a fabulous morning. We even managed to catch Jaclyn a nice yellowfin tuna before heading back to the harbor. A great day of fishing with some great people. Doesn’t get any better…
Rick McArthur took is daughter, Melissa McArthur from St. Louis, Missouri for a late afternoon fishing charter in Kona. Rick wanted his daughter to catch the fish and his dream came through when the stinger line went off and Melissa got into the fighting chair.
I had four bigger rods/reels, but this fish his the stand up 30 outfit…and Melissa was in for a fight. After screaming off about 100 yards, the fish slowed down enough so she could begin the fight. I have never seen a more natural angler….she did a great job of bring this great eating fish to the boat. Melissa is beginning college next year. Congratulations on a nice fish ….and good luck in college. Thanks again Rick for chartering HighNoon and letting your daughter catch this great fish.
Johnny and His girlfriend are visiting her parents, and they booked HighNoon for a full day charter. We had a beautiful day on the water. We managed to score with two Ono’s (Wahoo). One of them being a nice 48 pounder.
Clay and Linda Jeffries along with their friends Greg and Laura Jean Olekers from Southern California wanted to catch something for the grill. They said the wanted Ono (Wahoo) and Ahi (Tuna), so that’s what they got with a little extra. After missing two Ono’s, one right at the back of the boat, we managed to land one. Then done, we headed out in search for some Ahi tuna. We showed up at a buoy and dropped in a live bait, and within minutes we were on to a nice Ahi. After catching a few more small ones we headed back to the harbor. Just before reaching the harbor the stinger started screaming, but came off. He came back again and we got him a nice spearfish. Amazing day on the water. It’s always nice when things work out. Enjoy that fish. We hope to see you all again when you make it back to the island.
Richard, wife Barbara and their son Sean and his girlfriend Hannah booked HoghNoon yesterday for a six hour charter. Sean has wanted to go fishing since he was a little kid. So it was a great graduation present from his parents. We made it out to a buoy and luckily the fish were biting. We reeled in tunas until our arms were wore out. Fun day on the water thanks and I hope you enjoy that tuna.
