Ted Reimer from Northern California came fishing with his family again on a 6 hr trip. He and his family have fished out here before with some luck catching so we were eager to see what today had in store for us.
We took a strike from a spearfish early on in our trip but we could not get the hook stuck.. so we kept on the area to see what else could be around. We were seeing birds and bait but no bites.
Towards the end of our trip we take a. Oh strike from a large tuna! This time the hook was stuck and Ted began his battle! After about 15 min we got his fish. Pat side and stuck a gaff into it! The fish is estimated at 110 lbs! Great day for everyone!
Gary Furness from Northern California spent a full day with us looking for some action. Gary has spent may years fish for big game around the world including many good trips here in kona! So we felt very lucky to have him.
And to make a long story short Gary is very good man who has incredible amount of good stories to share! Without getting to deep into it he is the main doctor for all combat sports in California. He is the doctor for all kick boxing, boxing, MMA, and UFC!
With so many question in store and questions to answer we made our way to the fishing grounds. It wasn’t very long before we hooked up to our first spearfish! Having caught one before he asked if we could boat the fish to eat for dinner and that we did. Having dinner covered, he said any others we might get let’s tag. Very soon after we take a strike from another spearfish but did not get hooked. We spent most of the day without any other bites.
As we came back into the same area we had hooked up previously we get hooked up to another spearfish!! This time it’s hooked very good. As we got the fish along side the boat we told Gary to tag his fish! He has never done it before in his career of fishing so this was a great experience for him! And to top it off he hasn’t caught two spearfish before in one day so we checked a few thing off his list! Great day with a great man!
Sorry to keep every body waiting on the blog post but we wanted to save it because we had the Knyvett family from Australia for 4 days of big game fishing!
We had Murray Knyvett and his wife Jacque along with their two kids Toby and Peta. The main idea was to get his son Toby (10 years old) in the chair on a Blue Marlin. If a real monster Blue showed up, Murray would jump in the chair as well.
For the 4 days, we were seeing fish after fish but having the hardest luck getting the hook to find the right place! On the first day we jumped a decent blue off early in the day without any bites for the rest of it. On the second day we missed two Blue Marlin and then hooked up a nice Blue. Toby got in the fighting chair and did a great job but this crazy fish did some incredible jumps and threw the hook. On the third day we were fishing the same area we saw so much life in but with little luck… As we slid out of there to find new water we had a 450 lb marlin take a few big bites on the lures with out any hook ups!
The great thing about the Knyvett family is that they are hard core fishermen that never give up! They know what comes with the territory and knew that’s how big game fishing can be. So heading into high hopes on our last day we started off by jumping yet another blue marlin! Seeing good signs of life, we stuck it out in that area. And this time got rewarded. Young Toby jumped in the chair as planned and let me tell you the young man is an absolute beast in the chair! Some of the best angling we have seen on the High Noon and it was done by 10 yr old Toby!!! He did everything in his own completely like a true pro should!!! Watching Toby bring this fish to the boat was great and for us on High Noon, probably one of our greatest accomplishments!
That’s not all we kept fishing because it was early in the day still. We ended up finding an Ono for Murray to reel in to check another fish off his list! We then had a strike from a tuna that must have been from the biggest we had ever seen! But it missed the lure completely and didn’t get hooked. We also took a strike from a spear fish and two mahi-mahi.
Over all it was an amazing experience for all of us!
Paul Kottler from Arizona came fishing with his wife and kids for a 4 hr mid-morning trip.
We were seeing a lot of life all day but having a hard time to get them to bite. We ended up missing a very big tuna pretty early into the trip but we kept fishing in the same area in hopes something would get stuck to our hook.
Sure enough we get another bite but this time from a spearfish! Paul faught his fish and said it was pulling very hard! Within a few minutes we gaffed his fish and brought it aboard!
Ryan Siroky from the Los Angeles area came fishing with us and his family on a 4 hour afternoon fishing. Earlier in the day we had missed a Blue Marlin and lost two striped marlin. Knowing this, the Siroky family was eager to try their luck.
About two hours into our afternoon trip we take a big strike from a big tuna! Ryan jumped in the chair to start fighting his fish! He did a great job keeping the line tight and the rod bent! Before you know it we had this huge tuna along side the boat for a good gaff shot!
His tuna is estimated at 150 lbs! What an excellent catch for the Siroky family! Here is Ryan with his huge Ahi tuna:
