Steve and his son Jimmy and his son Jonah from Idaho joined us for a full day of fun. We started off the morning catching 4 Wahoo called ono in Hawaii. ! His son Jonah who is 9 years old reels in 2 of the ono! We spent the rest of the day offshore and got extremely lucky tagging 2 blue marlin! Jimmy went first and his fish was about 150lbs and Steve’s fish was closer to 200.. Both caught at different times of day in different areas. That why we always recommend going on 3/4 or full days which allows us to cover more ground!
We have been extremely busy these past few weeks with tournaments day after day. It has been a lot of fun and we have had a few non tournament charters since. Getting into some really good marlin fishing with occasional tuna and ono this time of year makes for good action. There can be some time in between bites but when it happens it’s something big!
Nate brought along his two daughter along who are 8 and 10 years old. They have fished with us in the past and the girls are super troopers so everybody was excited to head out. We started of with catching the two girls a big ono each!!! They were both so good on the rod and cranked the fish in on their own. We then got Nate in the chair on a very nice spearfish which he landed! Great day.
Matt and his wife Heather came with us for a full day. We wanted to target Wahoo and marlin. We spent most of our day looking for life. We knew there was fish in the area but couldn’t get a hook up until finally we had a big strike from a 40lb Wahoo! Matt did a great job landing his fish staying tight on the rod! He really wants to get his marlin to mount on the wall so he will be coming back with us in a few days to try again!! We had no other bites for the rest of the day which was hard for us because we were seeing a lot of fish but couldn’t get a Blue Marlin strike! So we will try again and hopefully we get lucky!
Billy and Tina Flowers from Miami came back to fish with us this weekend for the Kona Kick Off tournament. We had a ton of fun together fishing before. Thet knew exactly what the day would be like and they were ready! Towards the end of our day we had a small marlin all over the lure but have no real attempt at eating it…. we stayed in the area and a few minutes later we took a huge strike from a large ahi! Billy did a great job transferring the reel to the chair and getting clipped in on his own! It was a very hard 40 min battle! But Billy was able to land his fish in the boat weighing in at 142lbs!! We ended up taking largest ahi of the tourney with his fish! The next day we tagged a marlin! Awesome weekend!!
