Gayle LaBrecque and her friends, son, Jaden Smith called HighNoon at the last minute to see if we might have an opening that very day. As luck would have it, I was at the boat when they called since I had taken the boat down for one day to redo lure, lines and general maintenance of the boat. I said, come on down…and down they came. A very late afternoon charter and they scored big with two huge Wahoo. Gayle did a great job bringing here 40 lb Wahoo to the the boat in about ten minutes. As a bonus, Gayle’s friend, Jennifer lives in Kona…and she will be eating very well the next few months as we cut both fish up for everyone.

Here is Gayle with her biggest fish…and smaller one is in the foreground. Aloha Gayle!

Dave Setniker and his two sons Eric and Scott along with family friend Dan booked HighNoon for 3 full days for Daves 60th birthday. They were in search for a big Blue Marlin. Not always as easy as we would like but managed to see two blues on the first day without being about to get a hook in either. We did manage to get some nice size yellowfin tuna and lost a spearfish on the troll. Day 2 we were hopeful again but did not get any shots at blue marlin, again a couple of 30lb tunas on light tackle which they had fun on but still wasn’t a marlin. No dice day 2. Day 3 we switched tactics and fished a couple of my favorite spots with nobody home. At around 8:15am our luck changed when the captain spotted a few birds and a few jumping mahi mahi. A few seconds later WHAM stinger rod goes off and we were on to mahi mahi. After that it was one after another, after the third one we saw the little piece of trash that was keeping the around. Fished it until the boys were ready to pursue marlin and hit the ledge in search again but was unsuccessful. Great 3 days with great guys and looking forward to fishing with them again. Aloha guys and Happy Birthday
Dave hope to see you guys again soon.

Wonderful day on the water with this great family. Young Becca was diagnosed with Cancer when she was only 13yrs old. After a year and a half of constant doctor visits and chemotherapy along with a lot of love and support from her family she managed to overcome the illness and beat Cancer. She is a proud survivor and we on the HighNoon were delighted to have her and her family aboard for a half day of fishing. Her wish was to catch a fish and after about an hour on the water we managed to hook her a nice Ono. Couldn’t of caught one for a better person. Hope the best Becca, Sonda, and David Ray

Keith and Rosemary Bush from New Jersey chartered HighNoon for a day of fishing off the Kona Coast of Hawaii. Keith is an experienced fisherman who has fished for big game all over the world. Keith wanted HighNoon to give him the best chance of catching some fish. I began the day by trying for Wahoo. After an hour of no luck, we switched over to go for Marlin and Spearfish. After moving up the coast to an area called “the grounds” we noticed baitfish and birds in the area. After many passes, we got a nice strike and Keith got in the chair. The fish had began by slowing pulling out the line…but suddenly decided it was hooked and took off on a sizzling run. This was a very big fish but after a minute or so, it threw the hook.

Disappointed but still undaunted, we moved back to try again for Wahoo. As our day was winding down, we were right in front of the harbor thinking of the one that got away….when suddenly a double strike got Keith back in the fighting chair and he landed two nice Wahoo, one about 50 lbs. Here is the photo

Laurie and the gang From Minnesota booked High Noon for a 3/4 day. Started out fishing for Wahoo, and got lucky with a nice Ono for the BBQ. We then headed out to the deep waters to try our luck with some big game. Spotted large school of Pilot Whales. On our Way back in we stopped outside the harbor so the charter could jump off the tower. Over all it was a beautifully great day on the water.

James and his lovely wife, Rachel chartered HighNoon today. Like many people, they were torn between going for Blue Marlin or should they catch something good to eat in their vacation condo? In Kona, you can easily do both. The first 40 minutes we tried for Wahoo, No luck. Then we switched over for trolling for Blue Marlin, again no luck. Then we went to underwater ledge and Rachel caught a nice 10 lb skipjack tuna. This was a pretty nice catch, but James was speechless when I bridled this 10 pounder up and put it out to live bait for Marlin, Again, no luck. Then we again went trolling for marlin, and once again, nothing. OK, last chance, we changed over for Wahoo again and found that patience pays off as this nice 32 lb Wahoo struck the short rigger and was landed in about 10 minutes by James. They were even happier when I filet up the catch and it will be on their grill tonight,

Luke and Alana Randal traveled all the way from Australia for their honeymoon. It was another beautiful day on the water. We headed south out of the harbor to a buoy where we caught a few bait fish. So we rigged one up and dragged it around for a while with no success. On our troll back to the harbor a Spearfish knocked down out stinger, and just when we thought he wasn’t coming back WHAM!!! We were on. What a great day of fishing.

We spent the morning trolling for Ono with no luck. So we headed out to the deep water to take our chances with some big game. Just as we go all set up we got a tip from a fellow captain about a net floating right outside the entrance to the harbor. So we booked it over there just in time to catch a nice Shibi and Ono. We then headed back out to the Marlin territory and spotted a group of pilot whales.

Yesterday, April 16, Cyndi and Paul Guanzini along with Cyndi’s daughter Naomi and her husband, Mike Dressler from Silverthorne, Colorado chartered HighNoon for an afternoon half day charter. They are all originally from Vadnais Heights, Minnesota and were in Kona, Hawaii on a family vacation staying in a rental house.

Their primary goal was to catch something to eat for their stay in Hawaii. They exceeded their wildest expectations when the long rigger came screaming down….and this huge fish ran off a couple of hundred yards of line. Paul jumped into the fighting chair and did a great job of bring this fish to the boat in about 15 minutes. Most Wahoo run about 20 lbs…this one weighed in at 55, which is our largest Wahoo of the year. They took home more than enough fresh fish and great memories of their fishing charter in Kona, Hawaii. Here are two photos:

The Daniels family from, Lebanon, Oregon has visited Kona twice before but this was the first time they went big game fishing. Gary Daniels and his family chartered HighNoon for a half day charter. He really wanted his Dad, Monty to catch a nice fish. We can’t always deliver, but this time we did with a bang! About 8:30 AM, the stinger lure went screaming off. White water everywhere as this nice Blue Marlin charged past the boat, changed direction and ran off about 700 yards of line. Monty jumped in to the chair and performed like a seasoned veteran angler smoothly bringing this fish to the boat in about 30 minutes. We wanted to release this fish, however it had literally inhaled the lure and I wasn’t able to get the hook out. So we took this photo following the charter. As a bonus, we caught a nice 30 lb. Wahoo on the way in which is going on their BBQ tonight. Here is the Blue Marlin we landed today:

Blue screamed off about 700 yards. After about 30 minutes, Aiden with the coaching of Josh (a coach in real life) brought the fish up the the boat were we released it to fight another day. Photo of the release is below:

Raul, brother in-law Kevin and hometown friend Austin booked HighNoon for a full day. Started out the morning fishing for onos with no luck. We switched things up and went to live bait but again had no takers. We went to plan C and hit one of our honey holes and found a big spearfish waiting for us. The boys and their families will be eating good tonight. Good job guys

Nate Corr and his wife along with Steve Meyer and Christine Cunningham all from the Kenai area of Alaska, chartered HighNoon for two days, March 31 and April 4. Sharing a house in the Captain Cook area of Kona, their first priority we getting something good to eat as they are in Kona for 7 days. Things looked a bit bleak as the day wore on…but suddenly the stinger rod went off and Christine got in the fighting chair. After a 15 minute struggle, Christine got the fish into the boat. A huge 45 lb. Bull Mahi Mahi….which means this great group from Alaska is grilling on the BBQ tonite. Here is the photo of the fish:

Jeff Hellman and his son, Elijah along with Jeff’s friend, Wes Brandt from Honolulu chartered HighNoon for a morning half day of fish. Beautiful day….very calm seas and a couple of nice fish they caught. Jeff wanted this trip to be about his son catching his biggest fish…and got rewarded about an hour into the charter when the short rigger came slamming down and Elijah got into the fighting chair. He did a great job of bring in this 30 lb. Wahoo. Here is Elijah with his biggest fish ever.
