Mike Brown and his wife Jenn Brown from West Harbor Connecticut came fishing with us on a 4 hr fishing trip to try and catch a marlin. We found a marlin feeding on the surface so we headed that direction. Right as we got to the spot, the line goes sceaming off! Jenn jumps in the chair and does a great job of fishing this beautiful Blue Marlin!! It was hooked deeply in the eye so we had to bring it aboard. Great catch for a 4 hr trip on Kona.
Glen Van Zee from Townsend, Montana came fishing with us today while he is here on vacation. In the morning he told me he isn’t really worried about catching any other fish than a marlin . I said you are speaking my language!
It wasn’t a full hour on the water when our long rigger goes ripping off the reel. Glen is in the chair and has a fight of a lifetime on! He got the fish he was looking for to the boat and couldn’t be happier to give the fish a good release.
We also raised another big marlin that took some line then came off. Overall great day!
For the last two days we took out some of the nicest two gentlemen from Austrailia. Luke Jarman and Steve Winters came to Hawaii for a few days just to fish! We started yesterday off with catching live bait. Took the bait to one of the bouys anchored off Kona. We got lucky and found 3 mahimahi! Everybody happy! The boys said they wanted a big marlin. We had no luck on catching marlin for two days with boys but that did not discourage them… On the next morning we took our live baits to the same bouy to try our luck. We caught 5 Mahi and one Ono! Although a Blue Marlin will have to wait until their next trip, Luke and Steve had a great time and so did we!
We took out Robert Kimmel from Houston, Texas fishing on a six hour trip. Robert mentioned that he had been disappointed many times before and catching most anything would be a great day. He has traveled the world to fish, so he was just looking for anything to bite. We started off by catching live bait in the morning. We thought that there were some smaller tuna and Mahi Mahi at the bouys which would be a great catch for Robert and his wife. No luck! Nothing at the bouys. The trolling bite has been pretty good, so we put out the lures. As time was winding down he was beginning to think we didn’t have a chance. I told him not to worry we haven’t reached my favorite spot!.
Sure enough, Bang!… The long corner lure suddenly goes off and line begins screaming off the reel. We are hooked to a huge 400 lb Blue marlin! He had an epic battle! The marlin jumps insanely next to the boat on leader putting on a great show and was released to fight another day. What a way to end the day. His first big game fish was a 400 lb blue marlin, a once in a lifetime catch. Robert is going to put his trophy on his wall! Congratulations on a great day!
