Shawn Baker and his wife Kim came fishing with us on a 6 hr trip. They have fished in Kona in the past and have had little luck on their previous boats, but that hasn’t stopped them from coming! We spoke in the morning and they just said they are happy to be on the ocean and have a chance at catching a marlin. And that’s exactly what we did! We headed out in search of the big one!
2 hrs into the trip we take a massive bite from a 325 lb blue marlin on the short corner lure which is the closest lure to the boat! Kim was up first and jumped into the chair right away. The fish put on a show with many non-stop jumps! Kim did an excellent job fighting her fish, always staying right on the line, and never giving up. It took her a swift 16 min to land her fish which we were able to tag and release!
Exactly 2hrs after that we take another strike and this time it was from a large tuna! Shawn was up to bat, so he began his battle. After fighting his fish for 10 min the tuna decided to go another 200 yard run! Shawn was able to gain all his line back after a grueling 20 min fight we successfully landed his 130lb Ahi!
On the way home we had a striped marlin rip a. Inch of line of before coming off. Over all we had a ton of action and both Kim and Shawn were finally able to get the big fish they have been coming to Kona for! Congratulations on a great day!
